The topic of conversation was first impressions. (One of my FAVORITES, right?)

Anyway, we were talking about how many salespeople just like to sell, sell, sell. Now, let’s keep in mind not ALL salespeople take this approach…there are brilliantly trained sales folks out there due some amazing trainers we have here in Indy….but anyway, Danny then chimes in with this great quote that his father, founder of O’Malia’s Food Market, had said…

“People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”

Wow. This is my thought. This statement is one of those truths that is just as legitimate then as it is now. Plus, I think it’s brilliant because my business is RELATIONSHIP BUILDING. You just absolutely have to be about OTHERS in order to succeed in any area of your life.

When we give to others from a pure spot inside of us, even though we may not reap the “rewards” right away, we put some goodness out into the universe that is bound to come back. I can not accentuate enough, the importance of knowing your customers, your clients, your employees and being real with them. This is a HUGE factor in how successful you are with others in your life.

I love Indianapolis. I love the fact that we are in the process of building a community that is not like most. We have brilliant resources here to bring us together on a level everyone can relate to. It’s not about who has the most money or drives the better car. It’s not about who’s company is the most successful, or who we have to beat out in order to make it that way. Thanks to resources such as Smaller Indiana, Rainmakers, and numerous other networking organizations, we are developing a community that CARES about others.

I encourage you all that when you are on your next sales call, or when you are dealing with employees or co-workers, show them how much you care by engaging in some open forms of communication. If you don’t know what that looks like, check out my previous posts on non-verbal communication.
